Jazmine Sullivan

JazmineJazmine was born and raised to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Pam, her mother was a former backup singer for Philadelphia International Records. At the age of five, old, her father got a position as a curator at The city's Historic Strawberry Mansion in the Strawberry Mansion section, and her family relocated to the historic landmark. The 2005 Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts graduate and a major in singing. Sullivan began singing in the children's choir as a contralto later she joined the adult choir only a few years afterwards. The exposure Sullivan had to secular music was initially limited "I had solos singing in the church, and I was asked to be a part of a gospel label when I was 11, but I was not prepared to sign that contract," she recalls. "Then when McDonald's offered a competition to youngsters in the major cities and I was offered the chance to sing 'Accept What God Wills' on Showtime at the Apollo and the audience loved it". She performed alongside Stevie Wonder at his grandson's birthday celebration at thirteen. Sullivan began her contract with Jive Records at the age 15. The label initially signed Sullivan to Jive Records when she was fifteen. The singer-songwriter produced an entire album. However, this album never saw release. Sullivan was eventually dropped from the label. The singer maintained a relationship with Missy Elliott who wrote and recorded several tracks on her debut album, such as the brash single "Backstabbers" - produced by Timbaland and written by Elliott.
