An alumnus of Puyallup Washington Butler was interested in the arts when she was growing up. She participated in choirs, entered singing competitions, and appeared in both schools and the local theater. The actress moved from Los Angeles to study theatre at the University of Southern California and was later Belle the princess in Beauty and the Beast for about a year in Disneyland. She left college in order to find an agent. After that, she started auditioning and working on television and in film. Butler was a guest on the TV series CSI: Miami and CSI: NY. She landed part-time roles in the film A Couple of White Chicks at the Hair Dresser, and in the Syfy TV Horror film Flu Bird Horror (2008). She won the title of I Spit on Your Grave which was a remake of the 1978 film of the same title. It was initially a turn-off for her because of its nudity, violence as well as female undertones. However, the strong storyline and feminist element made her choose to take on the role. The film directed by Steven R. Monroe was released in October 2010. In November of 2011, Butler and Estella Warren began filming the psychological thriller The Stranger Within in Mallorca in Spain. The film was also scheduled to film at Copenhagen Denmark and New York City.She joined the cast of the film, an independent one Treachery with Michael Biehn which began filming in Los Angeles in June 2012. Butler was co-starring with Michael Welch in 2013's horror film The Demented.
